The One With The Cup Final (part 1)
It was fairly a one sided match final at Gothenburg, Sweden last night UEFA Cup Final featuring Spanish side Valencia and French team Marseille. Valencia, went to final with easier route (Besiktas-> Gençlerbirligi-> Bordeaux-> Villareal) compared to Marseille (Dnipro-> Liverpool-> Inter-> Newcastle) set sight to overcome their double european final nightmares (losing UEFA Champion League Final in 2000 and 2001 succesively).
Although playing without Argentinian playmaker Aimar, Valencia still dominated the game really well. They took the lead late first half from a Vicente spot kick. Referee Pierluigi Collina also punished Barthez's two-footed challenge on Mista inside the box with a red card.
Marseille, down to ten-men pushed really hard for equalizer, only found themselves two goals behind after a counter attack brialliantly finished by Man of the Match Mista, fired an unstoppable shot past substitute keeper Jeremy Gavanon. Match ended 2-0.
-Extra time fact-
Valencia's Amedeo Carboni became the oldest player to win a UEFA club competition at 39 years and 43 days - 14 years after winning the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in this same stadium with UC Sampdoria.
